After thermocol ban, pandals go back to alternatives

Thermocol or expanded polystyrene, which has been ubiquitous in Puja decoration, is banned this time along with single-use plastic, putting Puja organisers, decorators and artists in a fix. But the ban has also brought hope for revival of Bengal's fast disappearing shola art. Shola is the white softcore obtained from the stem of the Indian cork (scientific name Aeschynomene aspera) and has been in use in Bengal since time immemorial.
