The Covid-19 scare has led to a sharp plunge in footfall across outpatient departments (OPD) at Kolkata’s private hospitals. Even as the number of suspects grows across the country and the city, patient count has come down considerably despite hospitals making arrangements to segregate those with symptoms of the virus. Several hospitals have issued advisories, asking patients to keep the elderly and children away unless there’s an emergency. Over the last five days, at least four hospitals have seen a 10%-25% drop in the number of patients seeking outdoor consultation. The figure could cross 30% by the end of the week, according to hospital sources.
