Sarobar to shut down for 24 hrs on Chhath

On November 2, Rabindra Sarobar will be locked down for 24 hours, only the second time in its almost century-long existence. The last time the lake at Dhakuria was shut was on May 4 this year, when Cyclone Fani appeared to barrel towards Kolkata. Next month’s lockdown though is to prevent a human tsunami from swamping the lake on the occasion of Chhath.
